Children's Services Specialist - Lockport Branch (part time)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois is seeking applicants interested in a part time position in the  Children’s Services Department of our Lockport Branch Library. This part time position equals 25 hours per week.

The selected candidate will be expected to provide a diverse range of library patron services relating to children, including assistance with library programs, collection development, staffing the Children’s desk, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and a variety of related tasks.  Positions reports directly to the Children’s Services Supervisor.

Minimum qualifications: Must possess a Library Technical Assistant Certificate (LTA), or currently be attending an American Library Association accredited MLS graduate school, or possess a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.  Children’s services experience in a public library preferred.  Applicants should have computer experience, including Internet and the use of online databases, and ability to work days, evenings and weekends. Knowledge of the Polaris Database is a plus. Applicants will also be required to travel between our facilities as needed. Salary range begins at $18.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.

Are you a Librarian who would like to make a few extra dollars?

The White Oak Library District, with locations in Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville Illinois is seeking librarians with professional ethics and strong public service skills to serve as short term substitute staffing at our public services desks. Ideal applicants will live or work in the area and be available to fill in when regular District staff shortages will leave our desks under-staffed (vacations, conferences, sick days, etc).

Substitute librarians will be expected to provide a diverse range of general library help desk services to all ages. These services will include answering reference questions, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and at times acting as the librarian in charge of the building.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program and reasonable availability to work occasional nights and or weekends. Applicant should have strong computer skills, including Internet and the use of online databases, as well as the ability to learn the basics of the Polaris automation system.

Applicant will also be required to travel between our three facilities, as needed. Salary range begins at $21.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.
