Comicopolis is the Library's Comic and Fandom Con hosted in partnership with Amazing Fantasy Books and Comics and the City of Lockport’s Summer Art Series with a lot of help from many generous donors and sponsors including in past years, Zombie Army Productions.
The all-ages event attracted 2,000 attendees in 2019. It is held both inside and outside of the Library building at 121 E. 8th Street in downtown Lockport -- usually on the last Saturday in July (TBD for 2022). Admission is FREE.
In 2019, the special guest line-up was super exciting. Five-time Eisner nominee and Inkpot winner Dan Brereton was here from the west coast. Also here from California was New York Times Best Selling, Eisner Award-winning DC comic writer Marc Andreyko who has written stories for Manhunter, Batwoman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl. Local artist Gene Ha, known for his graphic novel Mae wowed us with his class on “How to Draw Anything”, as well as his kind and welcome spirit while exhibiting. Lockport resident/stunt man/actor Jordan Vintryst with credits including Divergent, Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, and Café Kremlin made a guest appearance. And, we even hosted a motion capture actor -- Lorrisa Julianus with 11 years of experience portraying various video game characters. We're looking forward to 2022 with plans already in the making!
