Children's Services Supervisor - Romeoville Branch (full time)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois, is seeking an energetic, creative and innovative Supervisor for the children’s department at our Romeoville Branch.  This full time position equals 40 hours per week and will start on or after November 4, 2023.  

The selected candidate will oversee a staff of three who are expected to provide a diverse range of professional children’s library services, including planning and presenting in-person and virtual programs (both at the library and at area schools), collection development, staffing the Children’s desk, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and a variety of related tasks. This position reports directly to the Branch Manager.

Minimum qualifications: Fully completed MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program required, with a minimum of two years of relevant library experience. Applicants should be computer savvy, and be fluent in the use of the Internet and online resources.  Ability to work days, evenings and weekends is required. Knowledge of the Polaris Database is a plus. Applicant will also be required to travel between library facilities as needed. Salary starts at $52,000 per year and increases commensurate with performance.

Weekend Custodian - Crest Hill & Lockport Branches (part time)

The White Oak Library District is seeking a weekend Custodian to fill a part time position.  This position works 10 - 15 hours per week cleaning two branch libraries located in Crest Hill and Lockport, IL.  The work schedule consists of a choice between cleaning Friday evening and Sunday, or cleaning Saturday morning and Sunday.    

Selected candidate will be responsible for routine cleaning, and in times of need, snow removal, landscaping, or meeting room setup and tear-down. This position requires the ability to work independently as well as under direct supervision.   

Minimum qualifications: A high school diploma with 1 year work experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive a full sized pickup truck.  Applicants should have the ability to do work that is at times physically demanding.  Applicants should also have the ability to work a weekend schedule that can flex in times of need.  Our custodians must be able to travel between our facilities as needed. The salary for this position begins at $16.50 per hour and increases commensurate with performance. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Branch Manager - Crest Hill Branch (full time)

The White Oak Library District, serving the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville, Illinois is currently seeking an energetic, creative and innovative Branch Manager to take charge of our Crest Hill Branch location. This is a full time position (40 hours/wk). The selected candidate will be expected to work with the Director, other Branch Managers, and a dedicated staff to provide a diverse range of professional library services including planning and presenting library programs and major events, collection development, staffing public desks, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and a variety of related tasks.

Position reports to the Director. All public services employees at the Crest Hill Branch report to their department supervisors respectively, and the three department supervisors in-turn report to the Branch Manager.  It is crucial for the success of the District that the selected candidate has a great interest in and the ability to work collaboratively with fellow Branch Managers and the Director.

Minimum qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program, 3-5 years experience working in a public library setting, and 2+ years of supervisory experience in a public library setting. Applicants should also have strong computer skills, the ability to work days, evenings and weekends, and a deep-seated motivation to deliver excellent library services. The selected candidate will also have a good sense of humor and be willing to work collaboratively as a member of our management team. Knowledge of the Polaris Database is a plus. Applicants will also be required to travel between our facilities as needed. Annual salary begins at $65,000 and increases commensurate with performance.

Are you a Librarian who would like to make a few extra dollars?

The White Oak Library District, with locations in Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville Illinois is seeking librarians with professional ethics and strong public service skills to serve as short term substitute staffing at our public services desks. Ideal applicants will live or work in the area and be available to fill in when regular District staff shortages will leave our desks under-staffed (vacations, conferences, sick days, etc).

Substitute librarians will be expected to provide a diverse range of general library help desk services to all ages. These services will include answering reference questions, instructing patrons in the use of electronic and print resources, and at times acting as the librarian in charge of the building.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program and reasonable availability to work occasional nights and or weekends. Applicant should have strong computer skills, including Internet and the use of online databases, as well as the ability to learn the basics of the Polaris automation system.

Applicant will also be required to travel between our three facilities, as needed. Salary range begins at $21.00 per hour and increases commensurate with performance.
