The White Oak Library District, through its Outreach Services, is committed to developing library outreach programs for non-users, the older adult population, and people unable to leave their homes with special needs in the communities of Crest Hill, Lockport, and Romeoville. We also provide our senior community with great offsite library services including visits to area older adult communities, senior community centers, and assisted living facilities.

  • We can deliver most library materials and resources to older adult groups, facilities, and homebound patrons.
  • We also help book clubs select their book titles.
  • We are a member of B'LONG (Bookmobile and Library Outreach Network Group), a local Outreach Services organization, and ABOS (Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services organizations), a national Outreach Services organization.
  • Librarians attend community events and talk to local organizations.

Talking Books

The White Oak Library District offers a wide variety of audio books. There is also a mail order and digital program through the Illinois Talking Books and Braille Service (TBBS) for patrons with a disability. They provide free library service for anyone unable to read regular print because of low vision, blindness, or a physical disability. The Illinois Talking Books and Braillle Service registers eligible patrons for talking books and playback equipment. Talking books can be mailed to-and-from library patrons for free, wherever they reside. There is no charge, whatsoever, to the patron.

For more information on these, contact our Branch Managers.

Booktalks

Our librarians make recommendations and give presentations throughout our district to get patrons excited about reading! They visit schools and adult organizations.

Programming

Enjoy library programming outside our branches. Our librarians can bring our resources directly to you through partnerships, festivals, and community events!

School Events

Kids can hear a story, win prizes, and learn more about the public library when our librarians make visits to area schools. We provide library card sign-ups, program information, and school partnerships

Curriculum Aid

We also work with teachers to make book selections and provide curriculum support through research support, fine-free and extended loan periods on library print materials, homework help, book lists and recommendations, housing textbook collections, online resources, and book bag service.
